Childhood memories are one of the best things a child can experience. Good ones. Not all of us are privileged to have good childhood memories. These memories can sometimes make us or break us. Sometimes it scares us and affects the way we live our life. The best thing a parent can give a child is a childhood worth remembering.
I had quite an adventure and fun growing up. Here are some of my good childhood memories
Growing up, my siblings and I had this squad that included the kids on our streets. We all kinda grew up together hence the tight bond we had at that time. So yeah, most of my childhood included them. They are one of the reasons I enjoyed the thrill of being a kid with no major worries. Everyday mostly after school, from 4-6pm we always hung out outside together doing all sort of things from bicycle races, swimming, football and playing on the trampoline. We had a place we called skate island.PFffft.It was nothing typical. Just a place with a tree that won’t catch your attention at all. Really, up until now, I have no idea why it is called skate Island. Them boys tho.
Bicycles were our means of transportation. Like everyone in our estate wanted a bike. I remembered how my siblings, the people living behind me, my neighbors and I learned to ride a bike with my brother’s bike. This was one of those kiddies bikes with four wheels. We later removed the training wheels just so we could ride two-wheeled. I was the first to learn. I still remember that day and the joy we felt. We rejoiced over that and of course, your girl was feeling on top of the word that day.
So yeah. I and two of my other friends: Soibifa and Onome, decided to have a picnic. We invited Stephina as a guest. So yea we start planning for the picnic. We got everything we wanted except a cake. So we decided to make a cake. It came out good looking but pink with a trash taste. I never understood why the cake was pink until some months later when it occurred to me that we used food coloring instead of vanilla essence. The boys were not happy about not being invited, so we offered them the cakes as compensation(just cause we didn’t like the cake) and let’s say I enjoyed their reactions.
SWIMMING
Apart from the swimming classes we had once a week, we always wanted to swim. If I had the chance, I would swim every single day. I was good at swimming and always wanted to represent my country at that time. So as little kids, we were not allowed to swim without a guardian. We always had to beg one of our aunts or our friends’ elder siblings to take us. The pool had like this bouncing castle float the ut on top of the water and also a lot of other pool equipment. I already knew how to swim before I turned ten and at that time I was good at water polo. Swimming was like my life. It was one thing I was really good at. There was just something I liked about it. Although it really wore me out but who cares.

Let’s not forget about the games.Hopscotch.I had a chalk set which I used to draw the boxes and will have my girls come over to play and sometimes, I played it at school. Also, there were other games like “Tinko Tinko” This involved the hands only and also tag, we had the skipping games. We sometimes invented these games just for the fun of it. I remember jumping to this song
When will you marry
this year or next year
second forever
January, February, March………
if you stop at a particular year, color, the number then it’s ascribed to you. Like if I was to stop at January then it’s like I’m getting married January. Sure we did make up ours.
I have other better memories but these are the only ones I could type down for now. We all have memories that make us smile when we look back. These are some of mine.
